[Recently (before bourbon update) my ranking on my primary keywords dropped drastically. Since I started publishing my articles on all the sites I was able to I was wondering whether it is possible that Google is penalizing me for duplicate content. What should one do in order to get this penalization? Is there any way I can be sure of this issue?]

Google doesn’t rank “sites”, they rank individual web documents.
If you take a closer look at what Google has said recently you will see that they refer to “lower quality” content.
Having a “significant amount of duplicate or similar content” has always been a negative ranking factor when we are talking about content that is duplicated on the same website. This is not a new phenomenon, nor the topic of this thread.
